Sociocultural Modeling Survey

Wikipedia defines sociocultural evolution as an umbrella term for theories of cultural evolution and social evolution, describing how cultures and societies have developed over time. Such theories typically provide models for understanding the relationship between technologies, social structure, the values of a society, and how and why they change with time. Such models are of particular interest to the military in helping unstable regions transition to more stable states. The following questionnaire is designed to help us garner understanding of how your organization could benefit from socio-cultural research.

What is the name of your organization?

Please indicate the type of organization you represent:
government research lab (i.e., AFRL, ARL, NRL, etc.)
service branch (Army, Navy, Air Force, OSD)
Defense contractor with more than 500 employees
Defense contractor with more than 250 employees, less than 500
Defense contractor with less than 250 employees

Is your organization part of the intelligence community?
  Yes
  No

How much funding does your organization anticipate spending on socio-cultural modeling in 2008?
  Less than $1M
  Between $1M and $5M
  Between $5M and $10M
  Greater than $10M

How much funding does your organization anticipate spending on socio-cultural modeling in 2009?
  Less than $1M

(Answer only if you agreed with prior statement). The granularity of the behavior modeling is less important to my user base than having a manageable set of attributes that will help them explore the problem.

My user base includes programmer types that want to be able to define the attribute template for a particular cultural group. In other words, my users want to be able to define the set of attributes that make up a cultural group instead of working inside a predefined template.
